My Name Means
"Daughter of the People"

Hi! I'm Ada, a queer non-binary and autistic design leader, community organizer, and healer; I'm also the first daughter of a Nigerian family.

Surviving a Life of Service

  • As the “Ada” of my family, I was taught to ignore my needs in service of everyone’s else’s. I know firsthand the pain of being overburdened, taken advantage of, and feeling unappreciated, especially by people you love.

  • After years of seeking support that resonated with my experiences, I found solace and strength in connecting with other Adas – initially, other first daughters of immigrant families, then others who also felt the unique challenges of reconciling their cultural upbringing and familial roles with their individual aspirations.

  • As I continued to grow my circle of those, like me, who struggled to give without sacrificing ourselves completely, in true "Ada" fashion, I saw an opportunity to wield the community of Adas I was building to support others in their own healing journey.

Reclaiming My Roots (& My Power)

  • I'm building this community for people who've longed for a space where they can be seen, heard, and poured back into--people like me.

  • Ada Love seeks to create a safe haven for Adas all over the world, a place where they can replenish their energy and spirit--and reciprocity is a core value.

  • Over the next few months, I'll be conducting research to explore the unique experiences of female-bodied women, non-binary and trans people who identify as eldest daughters, caregivers, or recovering self-sacrificers.

  • I have no agenda here other than to expand my community and healing circle and, in so doing, create space for others who might find connecting with others with shared experiences supportive of their own healing and personal growth.

Seeking Brave & Open-Hearted Conversations with Eldest Daughters All Over the World.

Over the next few months, we're scheduling 60-minute virtual interviews with individuals for who any of the following statements resonate:

  • playing a role as provider, caregiver, last-minute savior/fixer, in a way that doesn't give them a break.

  • constantly giving more than they receive to the people they love, whether emotionally, financially, or in other ways.

  • experiencing resentment, due to being unappreciated or even taken advantage of, even if that's not the intent.

  • viewed favorably as the person, partner, friend, colleague who considers and anticipates other people's needs (but rarely experiences this from others).

  • growing wary (or already exhausted) from being the one who 'carries' the relationships they have in their families, friendships, even communities.

  • feeling frustrated or in despair at being stuck in situations in which they’re 'doing all the emotional labor & self-work, while being surrounded by people who aren't.
